In February, we again welcomed over 100 participants from IP-departments of German and international companies to our Law&Technology Day. We organize this one-day-seminar together with Beiten Burkhardt. This year, our presenters with diverse backgrounds from start-ups over multinationals to universities were speaking on the subject of "Open Innovation and Emerging Tech".

In 2018, we again hosted the Law & Technology Day together with the law firm Beiten Burkhardt. This year, the full-day seminar dealt with the topic of

Lecture at the University of Innsbruck

Our patent attorney Frank Waitzhofer spoke on the topic of software patents at the University of Innsbruck on 13 June 2017. His presentation focused on legal mechanisms for protecting software, current (controversial) discussions in this area as well as do’s and don’ts regarding the drafting of software patent applications.

Since the Technology Day was very well received by last year’s participants, we hosted the seminar again in 2017 together with the law firm Beiten Burkhardt. This year, the seminar adressed the topics of R&D Collaborations and Technology Transfer. Please see our program for more information.

Our patent attorneys, Tobias Kleimann, Michael Schmid-Dreyer and Frank Waitzhofer, have commented on the Federal Court of Justice decision dated 13 September 2016, X ZR 64/14 – Datengenerator (see previous announcement below). The article is published in the January issue of MITTEILUNGEN DER DEUTSCHEN PATENTANWÄLTE (an internationally recognized journal in the field of intellectual property law).

The patent is directed at the protection of software against manipulation. The firm represented the patent proprietor at both instances – initially at the German Federal Patent Court and then at the Federal Court of Justice. While the German Federal Patent Court ruled that the subject matter of two independent claims was obvious in light of the prior art, the Federal Court of Justice overturned this decision in favor of our client.

This one-day seminar dealt with the topics of “Employee’s Invention Law (with a focus on remuneration schemes)” and “Know-How-Protection in Corporations.” Details can be found in the seminar program.
